Would you like to organise a surprise ‘Tangled’ proposal at the Mont-St-Michel ?

Professional engagement and proposal photographer Sabina Cowdery of Anibas Photography.

You girlfirend loves the Disney’s ‘Tangled’ ? You’d love to propose to her in the very place that inspired Rapunzel’s castle and features beautifully in the wonderful love song ‘I see the light’ sung by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi ?

I can help you plan and provide your girlfriend with the proposal of her dreams, whilst your here in France and visitng the world-famous Mont-St-Michel.

Let me guide you as to what can be done for your magical proposal moment and also let you know what isn’t possible due to the Mont-st-Michel being not only a UNESCO World Heritage site but also surrounded by a nature reserve.

I appreciate that it must be hard to try and organise your once-in-a-lifetime proposal at a location you’ve never visited before. That’s what I’m here, not only to capture the images for you that you can treasure for a lifetime.

What can and can’t be done at the Mont-St-Michel.

As the Mont-st-Michel is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is surrounded by a nature reserve there are restrictions as to what can be achieved. For example the following are not allowed (that Ive been asked about in the last couple of years :

  • Chinese lanterns
  • Row boats or gondolas
  • Fireworks
  • Decoration
  • Classic cars on the bridge
  • Drone film or photographs

Pleased don’t be disappointed though. The magic of the location itself is awe-inspiring and your girlfirend (or boyfriend) will only be thinking about one thing…that you proposed in an incredible place ! And on top of that you organised a photographer to capture images and perhaps video of your proposal so you can treasure that moment forever.

Then, to top it off you then have your engagement photo-shoot right there and then on the island. I take you to quiet places away from the other visitors to capture those raw emotions and excitement of your once in a lifetime proposal.

Creating your Tangled Proposal at the Mont-St-Michel

Light limitations – As much I would love to be able to replicate all the elements of Disney’s Tangled love scene that is inspired by the Mont-St-Michel, there are limitations as to what can be achieved in terms of photography.

I’m sometimes asked if we can have the proposal with the Mont-St-Michel all lit up after dark. I’m afraid that isn’t possible for technical reasons. The lights on the island don’t start coming on until around 45 minutes after dark and by then it’s too dark to take photos of you in the foreground in any one of the three proposal spots. And no, I can’t then use a flash to light you both as then the Mont-St-Michel then wouldn’t appear in the background.

You may have seen photos like these following ones I took in which the Mont looks pretty all lit up. These are actually taken as long exposure shots, that all photographers like me have to use to capture the colour and light after sunset. But I can’t use long exposure camera settings to capture your proposal as you’d need to be perefectly still for each shot for  many of seconds. You can see how that simply can’t work, especially for the proposal moment, during which you’ll be moving and so will I to adjust my position as the proposal moment happens, to ensure the best positioning of you both in front of the Mont?

Engagement Photographer Bridge Proposal Spot at the Mont St Michel

Tips to explain your plans to your loved one so they don't realise that you're planning a surprise proposal whilst you're at the Mont-St-Michel.

  • If you think they'd prefer their proposal and its photo-shoot all dressed up with nice outfits... tell them you've booked a smart restaurant for a nice meal.

  • For the Marshlands proposal spot...tell them you've heard about the famous pré-salé sheep that eat the marshlands grass around the Mont St Michel. the fields are enclosed part are part of a public pathway and you're free to enter and walk around the area to experience being near the sheep.

  • If you choose the 'Dam' proposal spot... tell them that it's good to get off the shuttle bus and take photos there first as it's a quieter place with a great view.

  • If you've chosen the 'Bridge' proposal spot... as you get off the shuttle bus walk AWAY from the island (towards me) suggesting to get away from other visitors getting off the bus, to take a few selfies away from the crowds.

  • Try and bring only what you need. If you're travelling by car, try and leave bags, drinks bottles or sunglasses in the car... travel light.
