One of the most moving and enjoyable parts of running my own photography business is being a Surprise Proposal Photographer at the Mont-St-Michel. It’s world famous for its Abbey and Monastry that began over 1000 years ago… yes, one thousand years!
For the last few years I’ve been contacted each year by some wonderful young men looking to chose this incredible location as the place they’d like to propose. Many romantic lovers from the USA, from Europe et even South America too. Of course planning a surprise proposal at the Mont-Saint-Michel involves discretion and organisation to help make this unforgettable moment happen.
There are many exchanges of emails to discover their ideas and plans for their trip to the Mont-St-Michel. In addition, from my side, I offer as much help as I can to help everything happen smoothly. The time of day, helping them choose which spot would work best for them to spring the surprise, planning around the Normandy weather, which can be changeable…there’s a lot to it.

Being a Surprise Proposal Photographer at the Mont-St-Michel
Every surprise proposal is unique and I love capturing each and every one. As I’m standing there ready to capture the unforgetable images I feel the anticipation of these young men and I get excited too for the young lady who’s just about to be asked the most important question of her life! My heart pounds as I stay discreet but watch with earnest and eager attention ready to lift my camera to shoot their exceptional and meaningful moment.
And yes, everyone has said yes !
It’s fantastic to discreetly bear witness to the emotions of each couple. It’s often overwhelming not just for the future brides but sometimes for the grooms too.
It’s an absolute privilege to help capture and create the images that will be treasured for a lifetime, not just the moment of the proposal but also following that with an engagement photo-shoot in and around the little alleyways, historic buildings, steps and park areas of the incredible Mont-Saint-Michel.
