Family Photographer Mont-St-Michel.
A fun family photo-shoot at the world famious Mont-St-Michel.
With locally based English-speaking photographer Sabina Cowdery.
I was contacted by Julie who was looking for a family photographer to capture some portraits and family photos during their vacation to Normandy from their home in Texas in the USA. They were staying in Cancale which is in the Bretagne region. As I suspected that would probaly visit the Mont-St-Michel during their holiday I suggested it as the location for the photo-shoot as I thought that the family might like their family photos with the iconic Mont-St-Michel in the background and I wasn’t wrong.
I know the Mont-st-Miichel well as I regularly capture surprise marriage proposal photo-shoots there but I’d never done a family photo-shoot there. Julie agreed and we booked the date and time, with me suggusting (as I always do) the start a couple fo hours before sunset.
This is the ideal time for any kind of photo-shoot as in the lead up to sunset is when we have soft light and the best chance of warm colours, if we’re ucky enough to have a sunny evening. In September that meant starting the photoshoot at around 6:30pm which worked out well as it wasn’t too late in the day for her two little ones who were two and four years old.
We met at the dam, known as ‘Le Barrage’ in French. The great thing was that her kids were full of energy so we quickly headed to a spot i know neardy that is natural and beautiful allowing for a beuatiful background to the images. It was a family of six with and an Uncle and Grandma participating too. They were all enthusiastic and not only happy to be guided to certain poses and positions but even suggested things they’d like to do like a jumping pose. Well done Grandma for suggesting that !
We could have gone to the island to capture images around there but we were having a great time where we were and there was a beautiful sunset developing behind a line of trees so we took some photos there too and just had fun until the kids ran out of energy. Family photo-shoots are always guided by young children as the focus has to be on them making it fun to capture lots of natural smiles and also to keep them entertained.
Have a look at a selection of images from their photoshoot and if you’re looking for a family at the Mont-st-Michel or anyway else nearby please don’t hesitate to get in touch and I’ll help you find the ideal location and plan the ideal moment for me to help capture and create memories for you and your loved ones.
If you’re interested in a family photo-shoot here in Normandy or elsewhere in France please get in touch.

Sabina of Anibas Photography helping you create memories with images your can treasure.
Photo-shoots with young children should always by full of fun.
If they’re happy…everyone is happy and that makes for naturals smiles and laughter.
It doesn’ matter if the kids don’t follow instructions or want to muck about…let them ! Let them run, climb and be silly. All the while they’re having fun I’m capturing and creating wonderful memories. It’s so important knowing that they won’t remember this age that Grandma held you tenderly in her arms or that your uncle held you upside down or that Mom and Dad would tickle you.
Photos reflect the love you have for one another and the close relationships you have.
Some photos you might consider ‘outtakes’. No, they’re not necessarily the photos you’ll hang on your wall from your family photo-shoot but they’re the ones that show the character of your little ones and who you are today, as a family. They can remind you later in life when your little ones have all grown up of this moment in time, this trip to France. I love including the ‘funny’ ones in each family’s photo gallery. Here are a few from this family photo-shoot at the Mont-St-Michel.
