Hospital Medical Photographer – Centre de la Baie – Radiotherapy Centre in Normandy.
By commercial photographer Sabina Lorkin.
I recently carried out a photo-shoot for the Centre de la Baie, a radiotherapy and oncology centre in Avranches, Normandy. I asked to visit the centre beforehand to meet members of staff but also for two other reasons.
Firstly I wanted to see the rooms that house the main three radiotherapy machines. This was so I would be able to assess the light in these rooms, knowing that there would be no natural light. This allowed me to judge that I would bring additional lights for the actual photo-shoot to accentuate the participants and machines.
The second reason was to understand how the healthcare centre worked and how I could work to help them achieve the images they were looking for whilst of course respecting patients privacy and remaining discreet as possible so as to not disrupt the patient appointments.
This pre-shoot appointment was well worth my time and allowed me to discuss and plan the timetable for the shoot with the managing team members.
Healthcare photo-shoot results
I’m very pleased with the outcome of the shoot. We achieved everything on their shoot list and more. The Centre de la Baie has now launched its brand new mobile friendly website featuring a wide range of the images, including personnel portraits of the doctors and all members of the staff. We also created images that will become a new patient guide, explaining what happens within the health centre and the patient journey as they receive their treatment. Congratulations to the caring and compassionate team who make this healthcare centre a place of hope, helping patients physically but also treating them with dignity and respect.
*No patients appear in these images, to protect their privacy.
